I am not very mechanical, but cannot afford to pay someone $1,200.00 to fix it.

Good afternoon.

Do you want to attempt this repair yourself?

It is a very involved repair. It requires special tools for removing bearings and using dial indicators to set up the rear gears.

What series truck? 1/2 or 3/4 ton?

I will get the information once I know what series you have.

The numbers on the ring gear are 26037712.11:41. GMK/ I guess this will tell me what gear ratio.

Okay, you have 3.73 gears.

Are you planning on replacing the gears yourself?

I talked to the local parts store they offered a ring and pin gears for $228.00 and some cheep kit that did not seem to have all the parts needed compared to others that were special order.

Okay I found the parts at Rockauto. You are looking at around $700.00 in parts alone. that is without fluid and accessories. I would add about $150.00 for that.

That price you got was a good price. You will also need special tools that will cost you as well. I would seriously think about that estimate as it will have a warranty. If you do it, it is all on you.

Forget the parts store. They are Richmond gears and they are very cheap gears that will not last.

You are welcome.

I understand the economics but sometimes it is cheaper to have them do it than trying it yourself.
