loses power and a light comes on the dash?

we have a renault megane scenic,automatic,when we take her out she loses power and a light comes on the dash,this has been getting worse,my friend had a look but never improved it,she is worse than ever now and gives of a funny smell,not sure what the problem is,any idea's

Hello,

Typically power loss can happen when there is an issue with either the intake or the fuel system. If the components of the throttle body is worn it will be unable to provide accurate data to the ECM. This will cause the ECM to reduce power to protect the engine.

Best course of action would be to get the vehicle scanned for trouble codes. As this can help with the diagnostics.

Also what does the 'funny' smell, smells like?
If you are getting sulfur smell then it is due to a issue with the fuel pressure regulator, fuel line or the catalytic converter. Typically a worn component in the fuel of exhaust system will emit sulfur smell.
