Engine Performance problem
1998 Renault Espace 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 130k miles

My renault espace deisel. When starting smokes (blue white)and misses for 20 minutes, and then goes perfectly all day.
Have checked the EGR valve and no problem there.
Checked the cylinder head and ok.
Looks like the automatic choke is stikking, but I dont think this has one?
would be gratefull if anybody had any ideas what could be wrong with it.
