2006 Renault Clio Engine cutting out

Hi

My car broke down last nite - when i started it and changed gears it started jumping and shaking and then cut out and it wouldn't start for about half hour then when i started it again there was a terrible smell off the engine. I only replaced it with some kind of Absorber that is always meant to go in Renaults something with the name of G i cant remember. Can anyone help i need the car for work.
