Removing overhead map light assembly

Hi,

Are you only replacing the bulb? I ask because you can remove the lens cover to access the bulb.

First, I attached the directions in the pic below. The lens is held in by plastic clips, so it's important to be careful when removing it. You will simply need to gently pry down on one side of the lens at a time. (See pic below)

Thank you, Joe, for getting back to me so quickly. Much appreciated. No, I’m not changing lightbulbs. I’m getting ready to connect a Gntx homelink mirror to the 12-volt constant, 12-volt ignition, and ground that supplies the power to the overhead map lights. I looked at the videos on YouTube, and some of the guys were upset because they broke the support brackets when removing the assembly. I don’t want to make the same mistake.

Okay, you need to remove the assembly to access the power supply. I attached those directions below. Here is the issue: If the vehicle has a sunroof, you can remove the assembly. However, if there is no sunroof, the assembly is an integral part of the headliner and can only be removed as an assembly.

Take a look at the directions and let me know if that helps.

Hi Joe. Well, I was successful taking down the assembly but when I connected my multimeter to the three wires connected to the map light assembly two wires were continuous voltage and one was ground. Couldn’t find any ignition 12 volt anywhere up there so I will have to run it to the fuse box. Plan on running it to the cigarette lighter which I believe is 20 amps. I will combine the continuous wire and the ignition wire from the HomeLink together, but I don’t know what size amp I need to add to the fuse tap. I was thinking 15 amps, but I wanted to check with you first. Thanks, Jim.

If you are referring to the power outlet port, it appears to have power at all times as well. See pic below.

As far as the recommended amperage needed, is there anything indicated in the manual? I'm not sure how much power one draws.

The car has no manual nor does the mirror but I I’ve seen a couple of videos that show a 10-amp fuse for a power mirror. I’ll keep looking.

Joe thanks for your help. Just for future reference the guy who sold be the wire harness said the mirror draws one amp when the buttons are pressed. He said a two-amp fuse would be fine.
