i can't get to top bolt. i took off bottom bolt

see pics for explanation if you have a worn 3/8" flex head socket may help instead. Check out the diagrams (Below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

What tools are needed to change a starter in my xj8 1999 jaguar

You will need a socket wrench with an extension and regular box end wrenches to remove wiring from the starter and battery.

located on right side of engine block

Hi there,

Where is the Jaguar starter? I heard that I have to change the started laying under the car and is difficult. Is this true? Any tips?

You are right under car could be considered difficult and dirty job. That's why we charge $90 hr labor.
Only tip I can give is use jack stands and car cold your going to be real close to exhaust pipes.
