Rear wheel turns hard and makes a noise?

Hi,

It could be a hub bearing, joint issue, or even a differential issue. To eliminate the differential itself, see if the same thing happens with the opposite side.

Next, when driving the vehicle, do you notice any noise such as a humming sound that changes with speed or turns?

When you turn it by hand, can you tell if the noise is coming from near the brake rotor or if it seems to come from the differential area? Also, is the noise loud enough to record and upload for me to hear?

One last question. Have you scanned the computer to see if there are any trouble codes present? These vehicles have a differential oil pressure/temp sensor, an on demand
coupling oil pump, and an electronic module. If there are issues related to any of those, it should set a code.

Don't hear any winding with speed. It was a bad drag; I haven't gotten it on the highway yet to let you know what the caliper has changed. It was about 70 it went bad and hit the brakes and the car jumped. Is the differential where the drive shaft meets the 2 axles in the center of the car. I haven't had it scanned no engine light. Still need to get my own scanner. I can probably record it so you can hear it. I'll have to wait until tomorrow night or Saturday once I get home.

The differential is where the rear drive shaft distributes the power to the axle. As far as codes are concerned, scanning the can-bus may show codes even if the light isn't on.

Okay, so, the passenger wheel and caliper is off. Here is the sound. The drag isn't nearly as bad but some wiggle in steering.

I hear it. That doesn't sound like a bearing or differential issue. It sounds like something is rubbing. Is that sound coming from near the brake rotor? Also, check between the rotor and the backing plate to make sure nothing is touching or wedged between the two.

Also, it should have wheel speed sensors on each side. By any chance is the ABS light on? I'm questioning if one of them has come apart or if the toner ring in the bearing assembly is somehow touching the sensor.

Also, let me know if it sounds the same when you turn it in both directions.

This is the rear wheels of Ford five hundred. Just making sure since I have 2 different cars. There are no speed sensors that I know of, maybe show schematic to show where should be. The sound sounds like it's coming from behind the rotor. As you could see there was no caliper on the rotor. It turns hard. No ABS lights or any warning lights at all. It happens on both sides. Still has a slight drag feeling when accelerating. Slight shake to wheel but needs to be balanced and aligned.

I attached a pic below showing the left side. (see pic below) The right side is similar. If both sides are the same, then I would recommend checking the differential fluid. Make sure it is full, clean, and free of contamination of any metal fragments.

Is it the same sound on both sides with a heavy drag when turning the rotor?

Yes it is on both sides and the same. Differential fluid okay, I'll YouTube the o see how to check and will check the sensor.

There is no pic showing left side just shows what fluid to use and can't click the link if I was supposed to it just makes pic bigger.
