Rear hub issue?

I had to change the parking brake shoes and the real axle seal. Now I can't get the hub in far enough and the brakes rub really bad and heat up. It got so hot that it blew the new seal out. I changed the seal again, that's when I noticed the hub was out too far. The caliper bracket almost hits the rotor. I tried tightening the hell out of the axle nut but that didn't push the hub back far enough.

Hi,

On the F350 with the Dana full floating axle, there is a special tool for the axle hub nut. Are you using one? Also, on the ford axle, they have a special socket for the same purpose. Pic 1 below is for the Dana and pic 2 is for the Ford.

Please note that if you over torque the axle nut, it will damage the bearing. Let me know which setup you have and if you used the correct tool.

Hi, it’s a Ford axle and yes, I have the socket for it. The first time I torqued it to 60lbs then backed it off 8 clicks. When I realized it wasn’t in far enough, I torqued the heck out of it then backed it off all the way. It’s still not in far enough. I can’t figure it out.

When you removed the original inner seal, was it complete? I've seen where the inner seal sleeve can remain on the spindle. Check that to make sure it's not causing this to happen.

I attached the directions below for the removal and replacement of the rear hub assembly. Take a look through them and see if there is anything you may have missed.

No, the seal was completely removed. I had to cut it off. I’m going to pull the hub back off tomorrow and check the bearing race. It’s the only thing I can think of that could hold it out.

I agree. There really isn't anything other unless you replaced the bearing and it's the wrong one.
