Rear hatch/lift gate not closing properly?

Appears as if something is interfering. While trying to close, door will come down about a 3rd of the way, then go back up. Manually closes fine, felt no binding. Automatically opens fine.

So, this happens when the lift hydraulic motor is starting to go out. You might want to try WD40 on the liftgate hinges if that doesn't work here is how to replace the unit to fix the problem.
