Leaving the house, 150' down the road it felt as if I was hit from behind (only going about 15 mph). No one behind me I thought it weird. Made a left, drove about 160', made another left, then backed into a drive on the right side of the road. Helped a neighbor for about an hour. I think a transmission service will help me can you tell me how?

what are the repercussions for putting dex III when it calls for dexVI only in a silverado transmission? Had the transmission flushed today and checked after what they put in it by their paperwork against what the dipstick says. Apparently they put the wrong fluid in. What should I do?

Have it removed and the proper fluid replaced. If you do it right away, it won't hurt anything. However, they need to flush the system and not just drop the trans pan to get all the wrong fluid out. This guide can help you step by step.

I have 2500hd model. I bought it with 90,000 miles on it. i have heard if you have not changed transmission oil at scheduled times then do not, but surely at a certain point shouldn't you risk it?

Good evening,

Waiting to change it can harm the transmission. I would definitely change the oil/filter.

No, to the flush. Just do the oil and filter change.

Flushing uses an agent that breaks down the clutch material on the clutches. that will cause a failure.

That's why you hear so many people say that their transmission fails after a flush.

1500 Silverado. My transmission is having issues shifting between gears (mainly 1st-2nd). It acts as if there's not enough fluid and the engine just kind of revs until I back off the gas. After I let off the gas and the engine decelerates it finally will kick into gear. Yes I checked the fluid level and it's fine. Once in gear there's no problem. Not sure if this means a new transmission or if a torque converter might be a possibility. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

First drain the trans fluid and change the filter. Then put clean fluid back in. The filter may be clogged and only circulates so much that it works at a slower speed.

I recently purchased this truck and everything was fine with it until about a week ago. When I come to a complete stop, the truck tries to lunge forward. Idle is normal, brakes are fine. I was driving the other day, then the on dash temperature gauge shot up to extremely hot. So I changed the thermostat and the temperature sensor. The gauge is stuck on hot. I check the coolant on a daily basis along with all other fluids. I pulled the two front tires off to inspect the brakes. They are fine and seems to work as they should. The rear brakes are drum style brakes. To my knowledge the emergency/parking brake does not work properly. I've checked for vacuum leaks. Didn't find any. What could cause this problem and how to I repair it? Thanks for your help in advance

Good morning,

This sounds like the transmission is downshifting into low gear too late causing it to surge forward.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/automatic-transmission-problems

I would change the fluid and filter in the transmission to start as it may be the downshift valve as the issue.

There is no DTC'S for the transmission. The only DTC is crank/cam correlation.

There will be no dtc for the valve body. There are solenoids but if they were the issue, it would code.

Your issue is mechanical, not electrical. I think you have sticking valves in the valve body itself.

Hi, I have the k1500 model. I am getting ready to change the transmission fluid. I tried tightening the bolts and wiped the pan down but it still leaks slowly. I am also going to change the filter and pan gasket. How much transmission fluid do I need? Also, should I use Dexron 3 or dexron 5 or dexron 6. Also, is is Castrol fine to use or should I get a different brand? Thanks.

for the transmission gasket wipe some RTV on one sides , if you can check pan because bolts may have been over tightened at one time and are bent that also causes leaks. for fluid for trans you need five quarts and DextronIIe any band with that rating if not use DextronIII.

I started to remove the tranny fluid pan only to discover that there are two bolts I cannot get at. The back two bolts are under the tranny cross bar(?). How do I get to these bolts so I can replace the filter? Help I'm stranded without my truck.

Thanks

1st if the filter and fluid have not been changed regularly then dont change it or you will mess up your trans but the best way I can think of is to put a jack under the trans. Then take the bolt out of the cross member going into the trans and then there should be four bolts 2 on each side of the cross member, remove those and the cross member should come out then you will be able to get to those bolts. good luck.

Generally most of the particles of clutch material and metallic bits fall to the bottom of the pan and do not cause a problem in the transmission because they are filtered out by the filter. Don't be afraid to change the fluid and filter. Use the latest GM specified ATF which is DEXRON VI which supercedes DEXRON III as the recommended fluid in all GM automatic transmissions. It is a very rare event when a service ot the fluid causes a problem. You are way ahead of the game by replacing the old fluid that may have been overheated and the additive package may be depleated.
