rear driveshaft (propeller shaft) replacement?

The center bearing on the driveshaft is completely shot and needs replacing. It is said to be non-serviceable but there are plenty of YouTube videos of people replacing the driveshaft on this vehicle and on the Chev Equinox of the same vintage. Also, there are many people saying you can remove the driveshaft completely and drive as an FWD. On "Just answer.com" 2 different Pontiac mechanics give opposite opinions; one saying no, the other yes.

If I can remove the driveshaft completely and it is fine to use the vehicle like that this would be my preference? If I have to replace it, is replacing the center bearing alone the best or the whole driveshaft as there can be difficulty in separating the 2-piece driveshaft when rusted as mine is?

Here are the instructions on how to remove the driveline and it seems pretty straight forward. If the driveline is too rusted, you can drop it at a driveline service shop for repair. Check out the images (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
