rear differential or pumpkin is making noise and does not want to shift in gear

so I'm wondering if I can remove the rear drive shaft and turn on the fly wheel drive and run the vehicle? it's just the front wheels making an all-time 2 wheel drive vehicle because is an older vehicle and I do not need to drive at 4. so will this work for your daily runner?

You can do this for the short term but it will cause damage to the front because it was not meant to be driven this way. Unfortunately the noise is most likely a bearing or gear issue so it will need to be replaced or rebuilt.

When I say short term I would not go more than a few miles at a time and not go more than a week or two. We do this on test drives but this si only a few miles.
