I have an intermittent code of u0121 and a code 73 on the DIC.
I installed a new battery, cleaned all the ground points at the battery and also under the battery tray and under the driver's carpet. I changed the two front ABS sensors. Did a visual check of wiring harness leading to the RDM starting from under the hood and at the rear near the RDM.
I brought it to a local garage and they determined it was a broken wire near the RDM. They apparently repaired it and cleared all the codes. All was fine for a week then the codes returned and dash lights came on as before= check engine, ABS, traction control, steering, parking brake.
I did not see where they repaired any wires ao I replaced the connector at the RDM with about 8" of wires and soldered them in. All seemed good all the coded and lights went off. the permanent trouble code cleared itself then about after 30 miles of driving it all lights and coded started showing up again.
I replaced the rear diff about 4 years with one from an auto wrecker and installed the RDM from my rear diff on it. I have the spare RDM from the rear diff that I bought from an auto wrecker.
The mechanic suggested that the problem was the RDM. I am reluctant to bring it to the dealer because the cost of a new one is $670 CA not including programming and labour.
My question is would a defective RDM work intermittently? Would the RDM from the auto wrecker work without programming it to my car? or is it just new ones that need programming?
