brake lights stay on?

i just found out that the brake pedal bumper just broke off .it is late night now , can I just remove the bulb until I get the replacement part tomorrow or do I need to disconnect the battery? so far the car turns on still after four hours with the bulb removed.

Should be fine removing the bulbs. The other circuits that use the brake light switch as an input are turned off when the ignition switch is off. Those include the cruise control, engine computer for the lock-up torque converter, and anti-lock brakes.Unplugging the brake light switch would be easier than pulling all the lights apart to get to the bulbs. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

There are some pretty simple ways to fix this.

There are two ways I have resolved these before without having to order that bumper. If there is a hole in the bracket I have just used a "push pin" type fastener into the hole. That works fine or sometimes I just glue a penny or a nickel to the bracket for the switch striker to land against.
