Reading OBD1 computer that has OBD2 connector?

Hi,

The vehicle should have an OBD2 system. As you mentioned, that is the year things changed. Also, I went through two manuals, and neither indicated it as OBD1. If it has the OBD2 connector, that should be how it is set up. Just for curiosity, where did you read it had an OBD2 data link connector but was an OBD1 system? I'm really interested in reading it. This could be something I never saw before.

Is the vehicle drivable? Most parts stores will scan it free of charge or even lend you a scan tool to use if it isn't drivable.

I have had many shops that have hooked, and parts stores hook an obd2 computer up to it through the obd2 connector and it will not read that it's hooked to anything but it will tell the scan tool to turn on. Scan tools that will allow can read obd1 through an obd2 connector will read codes and talk to the car.

And the car is on the road still.

Hi Bill, did you try using a jumper wire? If it does still have OBD1, this should work. Follow the directions in this link and let me know if you get codes:
