If I understand this correct then the shifter will not move or will the vehicle not engage the gear that you select?

If the shifter will not move then you could have a shifter issue.

However, I suspect you have an issue in the valve body with the manual valve. There are times when these bind and you are not able to move the shifter so it is stuck in gear.

I attached the process below to remove the valve body to check this. However, before you actually remove it, after disconnect the shift cable from the transmission range sensor, attempt to move the manual valve by hand so that you can see if it moves before you remove it. If it moves then you have a cable or shifter issue.
