I guess I want to know how necessary it is to fix rattles and squeaks. I think it is, but I read and hear mixed messages.

I'll add more detail. Our car has rattles in the dash/console (maybe other places?). The Dealer said that it would cost about $500 to fix it, and they would do something about the padding. I'm wondering how necessary it is to fix this, and is there a chance the rattling would come back?

I honestly don't know why the squeaks are there. We haven't gotten that far. All I know is that I hear squeaks in the back of the vehicle. Do you have any idea what that is?

you have to physically look for a squeak so we have no idea. as long as it's not a suspension component or brakes/steering then if you can put up with it give a local guy a crack at it he will be cheaper and probably do the same thing

Try putting a piece of padding behind the rear license plate to see if that is the culprit. Could rattling against the car.

Thanks for the help, but I don't think that quite answers my question.

-If we got the rattle fixed in the dash/console, would it be worth it? For example, is there a chance it would come back? Is there a danger to leaving it alone?

-I suppose we would have to diagnose the squeak.

I know we need new tires. I wonder if changing those would help anything.

if you fix a sqeak in the dash it may be allright temperature has a lot to do with it. it really depends on what it is. tires normally don't give a sqeak or rattle.
