Only had the car about a week 206 hdi 2.0 diesel and it came with this rattle sound from engine. Car had a full service a month ago which says that a rattle possibly coming from the crankshaft pully more investigation required. When I drive the rattle turns into a sound like something is caught in a fan and increases in speed as I do. It happens all the time and whatever speed I do.

I also have this squeaking noise coming from the front right area of the car could be the wheel area, It only happens after driving for around ten to fifteen minutes. I presume when something has warmed up.

I have a video with the noises, Any ideas masters of mechanics?

Thanks

Rattle sounds like it could be a loose pulley or a bad belt tensioner bearing. Should be easy to find. Take a piece of hose or vacuum line and put one end close to your ear, move the other end around to the various moving parts and listen for the rattle to increase as you get near the bad part. Just watch those moving parts.
You can use a similar trick with something like a rod or screwdriver with your thumb over the upper end and right against your ear to listen to non moving parts (like the bearings in the alternator, power steering pump, camshaft) Or buy a mechanics stethoscope to do the same thing.

The squeak sounds a lot like a brake pad wear indicator. You can hear it squeak as your driving as the caliper moves around and causes it to hit the rotor. When you step on the brake it gets much more pronounced and solid in tone.

Please reply back if you have questions or determine the cause(s) of the noises.

Thank you for reply! How much do you think all costs with labor would set me back in a garage?

Honestly I do not know what the labor and parts prices are in Worthing.
I can tell you that in the US the brakes would run about $300.00 to 400.00 if they replace the rotors, pads and do a fluid flush. The rattle is not easy to say. If it is something easy to deal with, maybe $200.00 between diagnostic and repair time. If on the other hand it was something like a timing tensioner or internal engine component it could be considerably more.

You could save some money if you did the brakes yourself, they are actually very easy.

for an overview of the process.

Sorry for the vague answer.

Thanks again steve. The car is going into a garage for diagnostics tomorrow if it the case for the brake pads, rotor etc to be changed. I might have a go myself but I am a complete noob with cars, But the video did seem very straight forward!

Thanks

Update: Mechanic informed me that it is the bottom pulley on the crankshaft, Labour and parts total cost £183, He reckons the squeak is possibly the belt, Once the pulley is done he will check for the squeak again...

Good deal. Not sure on the squeal. Normally that would be constant but it could be. Post back with the result and thanks for using 2CarPros.
