There are two ways to figure that out. The easiest is to visit any salvage yard and ask them to look it up in their "Hollander" guide. That is a very expensive book that lists every part for your car model and year, and gives it a code number. You look that number up in the back of the book and it will list every car that used that part. Now you have to go out and look for one of those models.

If you already have a potential donor car found, look up the parts on the web site for any of the auto parts stores. If they list the same part number for both cars, it is the same. The problem is when the numbers are different, you do not know why. The steering ratio could be different for a car with "sport" steering, but other than that, they might interchange.

Ford has never been known for good parts interchangeability between models and years, so it is real likely you will need a steering gear specifically for your car. At best, I suspect the gears from a few different years might be the same, but there is very little chance a gear from another car model will be the same.

So your saying the rack pinion off a 1994 mustang will or will not fit a 1999 mustang?

1994-1996 mustang rack and pinion are the same, so a 1999 would be a no.
