Rack and Pinion Assembly?

I am not located in the USA. I am planning to buy and replace the steering rack. The original steering rack number for my car is GM 26046148. The original rack is with variable effort steering (option NV7), with soft ride suspension (option FE1).These parts are not available, but there are modern analogs. For example, Cardone 22-108, Cardone 22-137. I have two questions.

Question 2: Which shaft size should I buy?

You will need to remove the rack in the car first so you can measure the input shaft that will tell you which one to buy. You might be able to call the Cardon and have your GM part number ready and they can tell you which one it is. Sorry we don't have a conversion chart for that. Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

The thing is, I drive this car and can't disassemble it. Also, I was hoping that you have specs and drawings of the original assemblies of American cars. I am giving you the original GM steering rack number 26046148 (old GM number 26034869). I searched the internet for information but couldn't find it. Perhaps you can give me some links. Just a reminder, the car is a 1993 Oldsmobile Achieva S, VIN: 1G3NL5438PM025097. I hesitate to call Cardone as I don't know English well. Thank you in advance.

There is a parts website www.rockauto.com if you select your car and part click on the part and if you click the information tab it will tell you shaft diameter and all the other specifications. If you click the part number, it will tell you what other year and model cars fit. It's a great resource I use.

I often visit the RockAuto website. It is really a very good online store. But my car is very old. I took your advice and went to Cardone. Cardone replied that they do not make steering racks for my car. But I found that there is a steering rack that fits my car exactly, Vision-OE 103-0129. Presumably ACDelco 36R0365 will also fit. But unfortunately, I can't find them on sale.

Yes, this happens, supply chain issues. You might have the unit rebuilt locally.
