Rack and pinion about 1/2 inch of play?

I have about 1/2 inch of play in my steering wheel I have checked ball joints,tie rods, steering arm etc,is it possible to adjust the rack ?,if so,how ?

Not really, I would have a helper move the steering wheel back and fourth a small amount while you watch with the flashlight for the play in the system, it should be obvious. Here is a guide to help as well.
