I have the truck listed above with the 4r70w transmission. I saw your video about 3 months ago and continue to see at times when needed, it's very informative. I'm in the process of rebuilding my transmission. Supposedly, my truck takes 14 quarts of transmission fluid, I guess also counting what's in the torque converter. My question is though, do I need to put the full 14 quarts or just put enough to where the fluid is in the middle of the crosshatch area or anywhere in between? I don't want to damage my transmission after I rebuild it and I understand if you move your vehicle without enough fluid in it you can damage your gears.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Yes, your transmission takes 14 quarts of Mercon V (5) . Yes, if you have a low level and attempt to drive it will cause damage to the clutch packs not necessarily the hard parts. After installing the transmission after rebuild I would start the truck and and transmission fluid while idling with engine on and parked until proper level is achieved without driving. With converter and transmission dry start with a minimum of 5 quarts. I've attached the specification pictures below. Let us know how things turn out and keep us updated. Thanks Danny, that was helpful. So if I already have about 3 quarts in my torque converter (enough to where it will not spill out). If I were to install the transmission and put another 2 quarts of ATF, which would put put it at 5, would that be okay for start up? Also, do I have to put the full 14 quarts or just up to the crosshatch marks will be fine? (say if I put 13 or 13.5 quarts) Jose Velez

Hello again.

Yes, that would work for start up. It takes 14 total. I would then add like 7 while running and just keep monitoring and adding while being sure to not overfill. Once it stays at the max level in the cross hatch your good to go. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.
