Push on gas pedal car goes nowhere, then have to turn off then back on?

Car drives fine then out of nowhere it's like all the power is lost except power is still on, then when trying to accelerate no rpms or movement except the momentum you previously had. So, I have to pull over and turn car off for 10 -20 seconds, then starts up and drives but is sluggish .
