Power steering bleeding

Had a lot of noise and whine from power steering, it was decent while turning not too difficult. replaced the pump and started the car, turned the steering 7-8 times right and left still have a whine. Only time the whine stops is if i hold the steering at either right or left at lock position.

Noise in the power steering is either air or a faulty pump so I think you are correct with bleeding it.

Here is the process from Toyota. There are other ways but let's just do what they suggest.

Run through this and let me know what happens. Thanks

Good afternoon,

That is the way you bleed the power steering pump of air. You need to turn it left and hold it all full turn for about 5 seconds and then turn it right and do the same.

Do this procedure at least 3 times to get rid of the air.

Does the steering feel okay?

Did you flush the system of all fluid and add new fluid?

So there are no possibility of leaks like Honda's do with the power steering hose o-rings? Never had a Tundra before so not sure what is common.

No didn't flush it, fluid looks good i just added after the replacement.

I would flush it out of all the old fluid.

Also, the fill tank, there may be a screen on the bottom for the fluid. I would check it an see. If it has debris in it, the fluid will not get to the pump and it will make noise.

No, to the o-ring. If it did, you would have a leak.

No screen as this is a plastic reservoir. removed the fluid from inside it and removed it, cleaned it out as much as i can and out it back, out in more fluid, Bled it more , gotten much better, maybe there was dirt and maybe the fluid is just bad. Added more fluid and the foaming is less now. If noise was at 100% before the whine is about 40% now, am gonna suck the fluid out again and put in some more. What ATF that isn't too expensive i can use? Since most of it gonna go to waste. I will suck it out of reservoir , add more and start it and do it over and over until it is clear.

Dexron 3 is the fluid to use. Use it for the flush and filling.

I have no more foam and the noise is better, but whenever I put in new fluid in the reservoir, start the car, turn the steering 5 times right and left then suck the fluid again it doesn't look that bad. is it possible it is not moving? but if it Is not moving the steering would have been hard correct?

If it was not moving, you would have no assist at all.
