Hi.

if the belt is in good condition adjust as follow:

Adjustment

1. Loosen the tension mounting bolt (B).
2. Turn the adjusting bolt (C) to obtain the proper belt tension, and then re-tighten the mounting bolt (B).
3. Recheck the deflection of the A/C compressor belt.

Yes, to have complete access you must remove the wheel and the inner cover.

We just had a new engine with 75,000 miles put in and now it is making "squealing noises" not just when turning the steering wheel but even when just idleing - guessing it is the power steering belt or power steering pump - all new belts were put on. Any ideas where to start - car runs great with new engine but never had this noise before.

checkto seeif tensioner is any good as they should be replaced when belts are. a good test is to spray water on belts if noise goes away replace the tensioners or adjust if no tensioner.

I have a 2004 kia rio. Two years ago, the timing belt snapped and I had to replace the entire engine. Ever since, I have had trouble with the alternator belt squeaking. I have replaced the alternator itself on the advise of a mechanic and that did not help. I tighten it, and it seems ok for some time, then it squeaks only when I start it and whenI turn the ac on. Then that progressively gets worse to squeaking when I am driving period. Then thebelt snaps, we replace and the whole thing starts again. I am on my third belt now and was told something else is "running slow" and that is causing the belt to keep coming loose. Any ideas what I could check for?

You will have to check the alignment of the belt, sounds as if one of the pulleys is not aligned.

if it is the alignment of a pulley... is that something that would be very expensive to have a mechanic fix?

This will depend on where that misalignment is, it will have to be inspected first, may be as simple as a wrong alternator fitted.

when you replace the belt you have to replace the automatic tensioner as well an dthat may be your problem.if it's a manual tensioner then use a belt tension gauge auto parts may rent them
