Have replaced the torque sensor. Was sporadically having Stability Control light. Do I need to calibrate the new sensor?

Hi,

With the engine running and a properly installed sensor, the steering wheel should stay centered. Is that happening? If it is off, the wheel will turn all the way in one direction or the other based on how the sensor was installed.

If it does center, then it needs to be calibrated. If you look below, I attached the directions. It will require a scan tool that can communicate with the power steering control module.

Let me know if this helps or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

I wasn’t sure if my message went through. Just disappeared. Installation was correct, if torque sensor. Adjusted steering both right/left to stops multiple times. But still no power steering, also fault message still on dash. I will look to acquire a scan tool.

Hi,

Scan the can-bus to see what codes are stored. CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link showing how it's done:

Let me know if you can do that or have it done.

I have a cheap one, but it doesn’t register the fault code. I will get have to get a better one. If I clear this code, will it remove and restore the power steering. I have a feeling; I’m going to need to replace the electric power steering assist assembly.

Hi,

Chances are clearing the codes won't change things. However, it is worth trying. Just make sure to write down any codes that are presently stored.

Let me know.

Hi,

I found a recall on the unit. See pics below. Do you remember having this done? It is specific to loss of power assist.

If you are referring to the power steering control module, it likely needs programming.

Let me know if the recall was done on your vehicle.

Take care,

Joe

I looked for a recall before and found none. Crazy, that recall is my vehicle. Did another search but found none. It drives a bit stiff when turning, but the fault message is gone.

Have you tried contacting a dealership? They may have a way to find specific information based on your vehicle's VIN number.

Let me know.
