My driver's seat recline switch went bad. We got it replaced, but now the seat automatically reclines all the way back when the car is turned off and sometimes tries to recline a little while driving. I have no lights on. What could be causing this?

If this was not an issue prior to replacing the switch, then I suspect the replacement switch that you have is faulty.

The way to prove this is we need to go to the switch and check to find out if there is voltage coming from it. Basically, if the switch is not being pressed it should be an open circuit. So, if it is an open circuit when the seat is moving then the motor is shorted.

However, I fully expect that the issue is going to be the switch that was used has an issue.

Here is a guide that will help with this testing:

Plus, here is a guide that will help with replacing the switch if you want to attempt it yourself:

Please see the wiring diagram below. Let me know what questions you have but we need to see what the voltage is on the down circuit when you are not pressing the button, but the seat is moving.

It was doing it while I was driving before, so we changed the switch. We unplugged it over the weekend, and when I plugged it back in this morning it didn't recline on its own all this morning.

Okay. So again, to clarify because I don't want to misunderstand and point you in the wrong direction.

You were having this issue and you changed the switch. It still did it after the switch and then you unplugged it over the weekend and now it is not doing it?

If this is the case and unplugging it truly fixed it then it was a loose connection.

However, it may not have fixed it and we need to do the testing when it is acting up or you will not find any abnormal readings.

So basically, we need to wait and see if this acts up again.

Okay, thank you. I'll be in touch if it goes crazy again.
