Hello Guys,

My 991.1 C2S encountered PDK Transmission problem and had to be towed to a local car shop.

1st Fault Codes: P0700, P1732. My oversea tech advised me to replace the PDK Distance Sensor so I bought it from https://t-design9.com/porsche_PDK_displacement_distance_gear_position_sensor.html and had the local shop installed and calibrated using updated PIWIS. After that, the car was running good again. But after 40 kms of drive, the PDK transmission problem came back and the car had to be towed back to the shop.

2nd Fault Codes: 00A005, OOA016, C12003, C12004, C12082, P0700, U0101, P1745, P1767, P1771, P18B4, P17F1, P1736, P1738.
The local shop advised me that we should replace the Transmission Control Unit. We are about to order it soon.

Please let me know if we are on the correct path or is there anything else we need to do?

Thank you

P1732 transmission fail safe and P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction. And the fact that once it malfunctioned again even more codes came up, I would say the TCM is going out. here is the location and how to replace it, so you know what you are in for when doing the repair.

Hi Ken, by the way, follow up question. Were we correct on replacing the PDK Distance Sensor in the beginning when the first incident happened? Thanks

Hello Ken, the shop has installed a new TCU already and they are currently in the stage of reprogramming using PIWIS 2 and 3. The current issue is that the calibration process does not want to complete despite several attempts. Any advice? Thank you

Does it give you any error? What happens when they try to reprogram it? Go over all fuses to make sure they are good, this guide can help:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

These cars are temperamental so not one fuse can be out for the car to work correctly. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Going from bad to worse, hmm, did this car have any water damage? I noticed the BCM is down under the driver's seat, I would see if the connector were corroded which will tell us water damage for sure. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

No water damage. The shop's location is sits fairly above street level where rainwater could not reach, I believe. The car is also stored properly inside the shop's hangar. I will ask the shop to check the BCM's condition. Thank you

May I know what are the available options left besides replacing the entire transmission? I don't want to replace it because of too many uncertainties (no guarantee that no new faults may arise or if the shop can reprogram it etc.,).

Yep, that is a problem, I would do a CAN scan to see if it picks up anything, you can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) from Amazon for about $36.00.

Here is a video to show you how:

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/can-scan-controller-area-network-easy

Amazon CAN scanner link for about $35.00.

Make sure the scanner supports Porsche. Let me know.

Hello Ken, the shop discovered the problem. They said the wiring of the PDK Distance Sensor looked like it melted. See the green tube tapes in the pictures attached. Would you know what caused it and what material they should replace it with? Thank you

Good find, that is a bad wiring job for sure, I would solder the wires and use high quality shrink wrap. That should fix the problem, thanks for the images.

Hi @MARK CHRONO, I'm having a very similar problem as yours and want to get more info from you.I had P0700, P1734, a shop replaced the distance sensor, it was good for 200 miles but then P0700, P1732 pop up. In your case, did the shop which replaced the sensor reopened it and found melted wiring / bad wiring? Did they admit they did a bad job the first time, or did they think it was caused by other reasons? Did they fix the wiring and was it all good afterward?
