I have a 1998 Boxter with 59,000 miles, automatic tiptronic transmission. I usually have the vehicle hand washed, however each time I'm in hurry, I take it through the car wash it will sputter and stall. It will usually start after holding down the accelerator after a few minutes but the check engine light will go on.

The last time I took it to my mechanic he said the car wash had nothing to do with it and he replaced my spark plugs and the air oil separator.

I trusted his advice and now that its been repaired, I had to take it to the car wash and it happened again. Is it the water getting into the air intake?

sure sounds like it, some car washes have pressurized nozzles that can spray up into the intake. Wash that bad boy by hand :D

Boxter in garage now and won't start. I washed it by hand. It started and I drove it into the garage. Now it won't start.
