Engine Mechanical problem
1986 Porsche 944 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

Hello folks,

I drove my 1986 Porsche 944 (non turbo) for more than an hour on the highway for the first time today. I was driving really fast on the way back and drove 90 to 110 for several miles (again for the first time). When I downshifted to slow to the speed limit I noticed that the car's transmission didn't slow me down as usual. Noticing something was wrong I put the car in Neutral and noticed that it was idling at 2500 RPMs instead of 1000. The RPMs actually go up when I slow down and put it in neutral. The car did get pretty hot. Online I've seen suggestions of air intake leak or TPS gone bad. I need to get this fixed ASAP and need your help. The throttle cable is fine and isn't too tight.

Thanks

It was a simple case of the Idle screw becoming loose from vibration and increasing the distance to the idle plate or stopping point. A friend grabbed it and twisted it a few times and all my worries of hundreds of dollars in repairs went out the window.

There is another issue you may have a suggestion for and that is the temp gauge. It stopped working about a week ago. Before that it worked, then didn't, then did less occasionally then didn't again until finally...nothing. Sending unit? Gauge? Guessing it probably isn't the thermostat though, right? How can I check it out myself?

Your help was greatly appreciated and I hope to hear you thoughts on the gauge issue : )

Thank You!

One of this 2 -coolant temperature sensor or the engine temperature gauge sending unit/gauge switch- is feeding the engine temperature back to the temperature gauge-nspect and test also the wire to it

Steering problem 1986 Porsche 944 Two Wheel Drive Manual Here is where I am leaking power steering fluid out of the Steering Rack. It looks like the hole is threaded and may be missing a plug but there was a black gasket/plug/seal in this hole before and it didn't leak at all before (ok...maybe a drop or two) Any info on this situation would be Greatly Appreciated!!! Thanks in ADVANCE : )
