I purchased this truck a year and a half ago with 80,000 miles on it. Since then I have put a little over 50,000 miles on it driving back and forth to college and working on the farm. I noticed last winter that my four wheel drive high and low there was a rattling or popping noise. Not actually coming from the front end but sounded like It was underneath my seat. Being the broke college kid I am I solve the problem by not putting it into four wheel drive anymore. But then I noticed as I would back out of the driveway a loud popping noise began to start in the same area. Now it does it frequently when I go in reverse and also in drive very little. But once I get on the highway it does not pop at all or as loud as it would starting to drive off from a stop. I do not know if I have a transfer case problem or what?

check U-joints and fluid in transfer case then have a mechanic check transfer case for a problem.
