Ignition switch replacement?

I would still like to see the column and the condition of the cylinder.

My key broke off in the ignition. At first I could turn it with the remaining portion of the key. Now, it won't turn at all. How do i get the tumbler out of the ignition housing. I got the wiring harness off the back, but, haven't gotten any further. I'm hoping I dont need to be able to turn the key in order to remove the tumbler.

Boy these are fun (sarcastic)! It can be done, but it is not easy. First, you can try to talk an auto-locksmith into selling you some key extractors. If that doesn't fly, here is how to remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder.

1. Remove the steering column plastic.
2. Disconnect the electrical connections.
3. The two studs that fasten the cylinder to a bracket that mounts the assembly to the steering column are actually screws. You can remove them by:
a. Using a hammer and ice-pick to break them loose or
b. Dremeling a notch on the top and then use a flathead screwdriver (recommended).
4. After then cylinder is off, you need to remove the core from the housing by drilling next to, and prying out two roll-pin retainers near the face-plate.
5. After the roll-pins are out, the core will come out of the housing and you will have access to the broken piece of key.

1991 Nissan D21 truck is sometimes reluctant to start, but will start eventually. When I turn the ignition key, there is silence, no clicking or starter turning, etc. What is going on?

does it crank?? did not see much of an explanation. is it ok if you get it started??

how to remove ignition switch

take cowling off around steering colume, 6 screws, swith is held in by small screw. just unplug the other end.

It doesn't crank while trying to start. When it does start, it runs great. This problem doesn't occur everytime I try to start the truck.

when it does not crank, check and see if you have power to the little wire at the starter motor. if you do, the starter is bad. if not, start at the ignition switch for power.
