Is it possible that the ECM can cause the transmission to act like it is having a hard time shifting from gear to gear and would a bad EMC produce a transmission error code.

Yes, since PCM controls trans.

Take to garage and have it scanned. Most autoparts stores can only scan Powertrain codes ("P").

You would want them to look for any error codes in body ("B"), chassis ("C") or communications ("U").
