The last time I had my oil changed, they left the oil cap off and about 3 quarts of oil were splashed all over under the hood. I had it degreased but the following day my check engine light came on indicating a failed oxygen sensor. Is this most likely the result of the oil build-up and should I insist that the oil change business cover the costs?

It is most likely caused by them using a power washer ot water on the engine, causing a weak connection to the electrical connection to O2 sensor.

They caused the problem, have them fix it on their dime.

They could have caused the engine to sieze due to lack of oil.
