Heater problem
1998 Pontiac Transport 6 cyl Automatic 400000 miles

My husband's van has 400,000 miles on it and last week he had the manifold fixed because it was mis-firing and he had no heat. Our mechanic told us he did not think fixing the manifold would fix all the problems. But my husband insisted. Well it did fix the misfire, but he still does not have any heat and the van is getting hot. Our mechanic now says he thinks it's the head gasket, but my husband is not quite sold on that because the area that holds all the excess antifreeze stays full and there is no other way for the excess antifreeze to go. My husband did unplug that area that holds the excess antifreeze and drove it around the block and he said the antifreeze just sprayed all over the engine. We have already paid $835.00 for the maniforld, now he wants another $900.00 to fix the head gasket. The van does run, but it keeps over heating. So what do you think??
We keep fixing the van because we cannot afford a monthly van payment and the engine runs really good. My husband has to use his van for his job and he was driving to Indianapolis everyday. That will be changing and he will not be putting on so many miles. So again I ask what do you think could be the problem.
