Air Conditioning problem

My Transport's air was running very cold and comfortable, but now it blows cool/warm air. I have been told buy the dealer, that they have to run a dye through it and a lot of other stuff. I have been told by other professionals that I just need to add the freeon, etc. They don't mention dyes, and stuff. These were telepones conversations.
I think the dealer just wants the extra money, I'm living on fixed income, can't afford much more than $50. What do you think?
