Engine Performance problem
2005 Pontiac Sunfire 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 90.000 miles

I have an Sunfire with a Erotech 4 cyl engine, it started using more gas months ago, then last week I ran the car low in fuel and it cloggede up tthe fuel filter. So I replaced that, now the cataylic contertor gets red at the end and the motor still runs rough, it cuts out when holding the throttle open, like a real bad miss. Besides the convertor bing clogged what would caused the car to burn too much fuel to start with?

I went through this car, cleaned the gas tank out, changed injectors, upper h2o sensor, fixed the convertor problem, changed air temp sensor, map sensor, fuel pressure regulator, changed spark plugs, air filter, now they're telling me at a parts store it can be the throttle positioning sensor. I got that yet to change and the lower h2o sensor. All this had to be done on a account of someone putting a substance in the gas tank, it was so fine that the filter did'nt catch it, it clogged up in the head that it was caked on bout an 1/8 inch where the injectors ports are. I cleaned all I could out, it was so fine that you could smear it on your skin and it was like gratfite, it stain your skin, any ideal what that could of been?

their is nothing wrong with the converter it is doing its job and because it is being overworked it is getting red on the piping output. what a dumb mechanic.
