I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire problem where the idle RPM Surges up and down when the A/C is engaged. It also sounds like the A/C clutch is cycling. I had the entire A/C System checked and it is fine. A/C blows very cold, no problems. It also seems to make a difference if you are in Park or if you are in Drive.

The mechanic who checked the A/C system could not find anything wrong with the electrical components or the A/C parts and blamed the problem on a defective PCM computer - Car was returned to me unrepaired.

I found other posts here that reported similar problems with sunfire and the best answers for a fix seemed to point to a dirty IAC sensor. They recommened taking it out and cleaning it, then replacing it.

My question is - Can you tell me where the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve/sensor is?

Also if you have another solution I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

the iac module is located on the throttle body by the butterfly valve. may have a sticker on it saying not to mess with idle speed.
