Rather than a dealer, I took my car to a recommended service provider for it's "once over" and check up. I have had regular oil changes and tire roations, air filter changed, (at the dealer) but not the other stuff.
Even though the owner's manual doesn't recommend flushing the cooling system until 100k miles and I believe the transaxle fluid at 60k, unless heavy towing is done, which I don't do, the fellow at the new place insisted that it needs to be done much sooner, like NOW. When I questioned him about this and pointed out the owner manual's recommendations, I was told the owner's manuea is made for "fleet" owners, and basically, the car manufacturer wants to sell more cars.
The thing that really got me wondering about this auto service shop, is that I was told that every other year a "fuel/air induction service" was required, if I wanted to extend the life and fuel economy of my car. I went ahead and had it done, now wonder if I just wasnt taken. The product they use is from BG Products, I believe called 44K. The intent is to clean the "heart and lungs" of my vehicle. I paid about $125.00 just for this service.
Was I taken, or is this a valuable service? Thanks.
