1994 Other Pontiac Models died

Girlfriend's 94 Formula (Firebird) died on her, would not restart; sounded like it was trying to turn over. Took it to the dealer, they're claiming the "fuel injector pump", located "behind the water pump" is bad, along with needing new plugs, wires, distributor and rotor cap (which I'm sure she does). And let's replace the water pump while we're in there (which I do also understand). This was after a day or so of troubleshooting.

My question is whether or not this sounds reasonable, as after parts and labor for this along with a couple other minor things (lights, etc.) they quoted her a total of just under $3000.

Your fuel pump is in the gas tank....There is a bit of work to getting the tank out, but it's a long way to the front of the engine from there...ask the dealer exactly what part he is talking about? SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS - 5.7L -1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula Fuel Pump Relay By-Pass Procedure 1.If fuel pump will not energize, relay may be by-passed to test fuel pump and related wiring. See Fig. 4 . Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump relay connector. 2.Using a fused jumper wire, apply battery voltage to fuel pump test connector (located in engine compartment). For fuel pump test connector location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS at end of this article. See Fig. 10 . 3.If fuel pump runs and relay tests okay, check for faulty connections at relay.
