2001 Pontiac Montana

I went today to take my daughter to work and the van started fine. Started to back out of driveway and it shut off and battery light came on. It restarted every time, but then would just shut off right away. I'm just not sure whats going on.

my 2001 montana extended suddenly started stalling. It would start right up again. After two weeks, one time it stalled and wouldn't start till . the next morning it started fine again. Now it is still stalling and very difficult to start. Are the stalling and not starting one problem or two? Could the stalling be caused by a bad ignition switch-a mechanic suggested this but I don't understand what the ignition has to do with stalling once the car is started.

i have been having a prob with 1999 pontiac montana van. After i have been driving for a while and the engine gets warmed up, when i stop, or put the can in park, it dies. the idle goes up and down and then it just dies. The dealer cant find anything wrong on the computer. they have suggested injector cleaning. this weekend we were coming home and the engine light came on. I put in 90 gas instead of 89. i dont know if that would affect it. let me know if you have any ideas on it thanks

You don't have to go top the stealer, many independent garages can help.

Anyways the 3.4 motor is common for intake manifold leaks. My guess the check engine light will help reveal that. One way to check the intake gasket for leaks is to spray carb cleaner or similiar around the gasket and listen for an idle change. I have heard of using an unlit propane torch to do the same. The thought makes me a little nervous though.

Don't procrastinate on this, if the gasket rupture in other ways, serious damage to the motor can results. I have seen these suck oil or coolant into the combustion chamber and the low fluids create expensive problems.

One more thought- Use whatever octane the truck calls for. The PCM expects it. Check owner's manual if not sure.

my 2002 pontiac montana has been hesitating, misses and stalling..would a TPS sensor cause this? I've replaced the preconverter o2 sensor ( the one that affects pcm and air/fuel ratio) and still problems..Heres the thing it runs fine until it warms up. I can rev it in park and its fine warm. I go to test it and drive down the road and starts all over again. if i dont accelerate too much i can make it back home. would the post converter cause this problem? i hooked up a scan tool and read the parameters to the postconverter o2 sensor and the voltages aren't what the car manual says. it says it should hover around 0.40 volts and change slightly however my readings indicate that its around .59 and when i accelerate it goes below 0.40 volts. is this normal or is it something else as the price of an o2 sensor is $150 and i already bought the wrong one! thanks

A bad Tps sensor usually makes the rpm's bounce around. Is there a MIL light on?

Your really going to waste a lot of money here approaching this in this manor. There are dozens of things that can cause symptoms as you describe but the 0/2 sensors are not one of them. The rear sensors have no effect on engine performance at all. This could be a bad mass Air Flow sensor but I still wouldn't replace it without some testing to verify it first.

For a start, I'd check anything that has to do with idler air system. Any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free.

If your going to work on your own vehicle, at the least, an obd2 code reader is handy.

Just to add, it runs ok off idle? There is a low idle code, p0506, don't know if that that code is set on your vehicle? You would check for any air restriction and check the iac.

Also your intake manifold gasket has been known to leak.

I hope you can help with this one. I recently replaced all 3 ignition coils in my 1999 Pontiac Montana. About a month later it started acting like it was gonna stall. Then one day I turned the corner and car stalled. I could get it to turn over but it wouldn't start. Eventually some guys came over and got it started and I made it home a few block away. After that I left it parked and drove it a few blocks a couple days later. It would still hesitate, mailnly when I pressed the breaks. My brother in law replaced 3 of 6 spark plugs because that all he could reach. Now when I turn my car on the engine light flashes and when I put my car in any gear it stalls/ shuts off. Does this have anything to do with replacing the ignition coils? I also know I need a tune-up, Any ideas? Thanks!!

Remove ignition module and have it checked at most autoparts stores, if OK, then have fuel pressure checked.

Could be coming from the engine oil cooler located at the base of the oil filter. These are an aluminum casting and will leak under high coolant temperatures which occur minutes after the engine is shut down. The extra heat that develops after coolant stops circulating will open up a smalll crack in trhe casting or welds. I have seen these leak before. About $ 250 from dealer.

ed sounds pretty reasonable, that would be just about the only thing that would be causing it to come out of the radiator when the engine is off.
