1967 Pontiac GTO Manual 67,000 miles

I recently got a dipstick from another used vehicle; when I put it in my GTO and started it up, I heard a noise and immediately shut the motor off. When I checked the engine, the dipstick was gone! If it's gone down into the oil pan, is there a way other than pulling the motor to get it? I've tried magnets to no avail. Have you ever heard of this?

dipsticks are engine specific. So if you got one out of a 400 it could be to long. You need to get one out of the same type of car/oil pan. As far as getting the dipstick out you can pull the pan without removing the engine. YO need to jack the motor up and turn the crank a certain way and the pan will slide out. Not easy and hard to explain which way to turn the crank, you'll have to experiment on your own.
