transmission slipping and not accellerating over 40 mph

2002 grand prix gt my transmission slips alot and will not accellerate over 40 mph, what should i do it only has 69000 miles

First I would check the fluid level, which may be difficult if there is no dipstick. Is this is true take it to a shop and get the fluid level checked.
