I own a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8, 155000 miles. In the last two months, ive replaced the power steering pump, alternator, radiator, motor mounts, transmission. Ive yet to fix a leak in my oil pan gasket, but i will soon. The most urgent problem now is that recently ive noticed a loss of power while i am driving with my foot steady on the gas pedal. This happens in small, barely noticeable occasions frequently. More occasionally, there will be a sharp decline in rpms while my foot is steady on the gas pedal, usually when the rpms are at 2000 or so. One time recently I had a problem starting the car. It was slow to start when i had the key on. This only happened one time, however, and I had it checked at the local pep boys for battery, alternator and starter systems. They all came back ok. My main concern is the power surge. It wont show up on a computer diagnostic since the check engine light hasnt come on. I dont want to wait until I am stranded to get it diagnosed. I also dont have the money to fix little things here and there and hope it works. From reading other similar posts, I am thinking it is likely that it could be the mass air flow sensor. About two years ago i had it replaced, and a year previous to that. Could it even be a transmission prob? I just had it replaced with a used one last week. Any suggestions? Thanks.
