I have a 2001 Grand Prix GT that had a bad(leaking) power steering rack. I found a replacement rack at salvage and replaced it. The problem I am having is that when I Jacked the engine cradle back into place the car would no longer start. The engine is the 3800 seriesII, and the rack was of the variable assist variety. When I turn the ignition to the on position I get nothing, but when I attach a charger to the battery, and turn the key to the on position everything comes to life, but in a weird way..the DIC is flashing wildly, and the speedometer goes to 40mph, and the trip odometer spins. I have checked all the connections and grounds, and everything seems to be fine. When I connect my OBD2 scanner to it, I get an error message with the ignition off, but when the ignition is on the scanner goes wild. This is a strange one, hope you can help! :?:

Have you checked to be sure you didnt pinch any wires betwen the cradle and body? Are the battery ends clean and tight? What is the surface voltage of the battery?
