Engine Cooling problem
2003 Pontiac Grand Prix Automatic 101000 miles
We have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 Liter engine. We replaced the radiator about a year and a half ago and it ran fine for awhile. over the past couple months it started overheating to the point that we had to have it towed in for repairs twice. This is what we have had done so far to fix the overheating problem:
-Took out the radiator and had it cleaned and pressure checked - it was fine
-Put radiator back in and replaced all hoses
-Replaced thermostat twice, the 1st one didn't work
-tightened loose hose
-Fixed fan connection, now both cooling fans work
-flushed coolant system
If you take the car anywhere the temperature guage goes up to between the 3/4 mark and the red area, drops to 1/4 or 1/2 when the cooling fans kick in and then climbs back up. If you take the car more than 4 or 5 miles, the guage goes into the red area.
What can we do to fix the overheating problem and prevent it from happening again?
