2003 Pontiac Grand Prix fuse blown

i just bought a 03 grand prix and when i got home i noticed that the fuse for the cig lighter was blown out

i went to put in another fuse and smoke came out of the fuse pannel and smelled like burnt plastic.

isthis something i really should worry about or is it just something simple

Its hardly ever good when smoke comes out of electrical items. You need to gain access to the wires to see if any are burnt. Also look in the cig lighter to see if any change has fallen into it, this is a common cause of them shorting out.If no change, be sure all wiring is ok, it may just be the receptacle is shorted internally
