If you need to bet back with me….please let me know the size of your engine in liter and the 8th digit of your VIN.

If I understand you correctly when you try to open the door from the outside, it locks back again.

Have you tried unlocking and opening from the inside while holding the lock up?

Is the child proof lever in that position (if you can get it open?)

Sometimes when the lock actuators go bad they are stuck……..

Again, can you hold the lock up and open it from the inside?

If you can, once open remove the door panel and disconnect the lock connector and see if the same thing happens…..

I would imagine your lock actuator is bad.

My engine is a 3.8 liter and the 8th digit of the VIN is a "K". You are correct...when I try to open, the door locks back up. I tried unlocking from the inside and opening, but nothing. It sounds like the latch is releasing when I pull the handle, but it still won't open. My guess is it's something to do with the child safety lock. Problem is I don't know how to gain access to that part of the door. Any suggestions?

Well, let’s see if we can get the door open…..you have a great idea…..the child safety lock and I am looking into that and the anti theft system…….My goal here is to have the car open the lock....then pull the power so it doesn't lock again so we can see if it opens to get to the inside of the door.

For now use your key fob and hit it twice as normal to unlock all the doors. Then pull fuse 29 or PWR LOCK. I show both……then try to open the door and see if it will open.

If not, then I may have you pull several fuses tied into the theft system………

Let me know how that goes and I will continue to look at the wiring, child lock etc. I did see on the rear compartment that there is a switch that closes when tampered with…….but that is for the rear compartment………..

Also, your theft system may throw a code. Can you go to Auto Zone (AZ) or O’Reilly’s (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don’t get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery and alternator. It is getting cold, might as well ensure the battery/alternator are okay………

I tried unlocking the door with the key fab and pulling the Power Door fuse as suggested, but no go. Haven't visited one of the auto stores yet, should I try that first or try pulling some fuses tied to the theft system like you'd mentioned?

Well up to you…..my thought though I haven’t forgot your idea on the child lock….the child lock doesn’t appear to be electrical but mechanical….so once the door is open you can check to see the position of the switch.

Since I haven’t’ seen it on the wiring diagram unless it is on one I haven’t seen is it appears as though your car is responding to more of a theft……such as….okay….security it on…..oops door found unlock…..wait someone is trying to open it….I the car am going to lock it….

Now….I may be off in left field here….but…..we need to get the door open to get inside to at least get the connector off the lock so the door can be used an better troubleshot.

I have provided all that I see hit the security. Many go through the Body Control Module BCM for the car. So many things are going to be killed for a few minutes….

Again, my thought, unlock the doors……pull the fuses and see if it opens…..

Now when you did it the first time….did the door unlock as before, you pulled the fuse, and then you went to lift the handle and boom….it locks?

The checking for codes at AZ or OR just helps with troubleshooting…..so if it is the theft system and it did throw a code…that helps us.

Now you might consider doing one at a time and testing the lock each time to narrow down to which fuse.

Now to me if you do get it to this point and you do get it open, I would remove the door panel and disconnected the connector to the lock so you can open the door when you want to work on it. You may have to driver around with the door panel off for a few days….(I’ve done that before) but it gives you access unless you know which fuse it is.

I believe you're correct...child lock is mechanical. Have to manually move it from lock to unlock.
To your ? on what happened with the first fuse pull...yes, it acted the same. Unlocked and when I pulled the handle, it locked on me.
I tried pulling all the fuses you recommended, one at a time, but the door reacted the same way everytime. Pulled the handle and it locked back up.
Is stopping by Auto Zone or O'Reilly's my only other option? I live in a small town that doesn't have either one. We have a NAPA and a Carquest. Hopefully they can lend a hand if this is the last option.

Wow, ornery little thing isn’t it. Okay…….let’s go for the main one………unlock and disconnect the battery……..not sure if your radio needs a code so if it does, make sure you have that. With no power I wouldn’t think it would fight you now.

Then again…..I would pull the door panel and disconnect the lock for now until we can figure out why it is being so ornery.

Codes…….no, AZ and OR isn’t your only option. I suggest what we have around here and what I am aware of. You may save yourself a drive and call NAPA and Carquest and see if they off this. If not………well, we will do our best to figure out something else for now.

Ok...I'll disconnect the batery. What do you mean by "unlock" the battery? Also, how can I tell if my radio has a code? Ya lost me with that one.

Okay you are right…….my typing and thinking were not at the right speed…..makes no sense does it…….and I wrote it……….oh well……..lets try it again………

What I mean is……unlock the car…….disconnect the battery…….then open the door……

With no power to the door you should be able to open it without it locking the second you touch it.

Then, you can remove the door panel and unplug the lock…..and hook the battery back up so we can do some troubleshooting.

You may have to drive around with the door panel off……I have before……..up to you.

The radio……..some radios have a theft code…..the second you disconnect the battery or remove the radio from the car……..it locks the radio out. Then when you plug it back in or hook the battery back up you have to enter a code on the radio to unlock it so it will work.

I looked at the battery removal for your car and it didn’t say anything about that. So if it locks the radio out……..we can fix that……….

Alrighty....got the darn door open today. I did what you'd suggested and disconnected the battery. Still...the damn thing wouldn't budge. Sooo, I stood next to the door and pressed the unlock button on the remote. At the exact time I heard it unlock, I pulled the door handle and it came open. Once I got it open, I noticed the child lock was enabled, so I disabled it. Opened and closed another 1/2 dozen times to make sure it was working.
All's well that ends well...I guess!

Fantastic!................Child lock……..yea right…………..that is a child, adult, maintenance lock. I think that came off of one of the presidential fleet cars………
