My car started making a loud "groaning"(i.e. not quite grinding) noise around 102k miles. However, I was not living at home and couldn't find a recommended mechanic in the area. The sound doesn't start until I hit about 25mph, and is loudest around 35mph. Though it's not there when accelerating from a dead stop, the sound will continue as I decelerate from any speed above 25mph until I stop. The noise changes pitch- higher as I go faster, and lower as I slow down. There is also a vibration that I can feel in the gas pedal, and my acceleration has decreased since the problem started, especially when going uphill. No check engine light has come on (except when the mechanic I took it to today messed with it. It has since been reset though.)
