I just had my catalytic converter replaced because it went out. In reviewing the converter, there were metallic deposits in the converter that caused the issue. The deposits looked bronze or brass. Does anyone know where the deposits may have come from in the engine?

Was the engine pinging before the CAT replacement?

Did you gradually loose performance or did it happen all of a sudden?

It happened all of a sudden. One night leaving work, the power was gone. Really bizarre.

If engine is running normally now, it may have simply been some spark plug material in convertor.
A plug tip broke off for example, or O2 sensor material.

Convertors generally fail when air/fuel ratio is too lean or rich, or the convertor is impacted with road debris.
